The number one concern I hear from salon, spa and wellness owners is simple: “What if my staff or clients find out?” It’s a fair worry. News that a business is for sale can unsettle a team, worry loyal clients and even give competitors an opening. The good news is that a well-run sale can stay confidential right up until the point you choose to share it.
When your business goes to market, it’s described in general terms — the type of business, the region and its key strengths — without the name, exact address or identifying photos. A buyer reading the advertisement shouldn’t be able to work out which business it is.
Before a buyer receives anything more detailed, I speak with them to understand their background, their budget and how serious they are. Curious onlookers and competitors fishing for information don’t get past this step.
Qualified buyers sign a confidentiality agreement before receiving the information memorandum. This sets out that the information is private and can only be used to assess the purchase.
Most inspections happen outside business hours, or are presented as a general visit. Buyers are briefed never to approach staff or clients directly.
Client lists, staff details and supplier terms are only shared late in the process — usually during due diligence with a buyer who has made a serious offer.
Most owners tell their staff once a buyer is confirmed, and often introduce the new owner at the same time. I’ll help you plan that conversation so your team feels secure and valued.
Confidentiality isn’t a feature of the sale — it’s the foundation of it.
